who is IBM DB2 UDB version 8.1 certified is

Ross Temple
has designed a large number of DB2 UDB databases at
both the physical and logical level. The logical database designed is usually taken to
third normal form using the client's proprietary data analysis standards (entity and
attribute determination). Once the logical design has been completed the physical database
is then constructed from the logical model.
DB2 UDB databases need to to be
monitored and maintained as they are used and the data volumes increase over
time.
This includes backing up the data at regular intervals and planning for
recovery. The organisation of the data also needs to be monitored and
decisions taken on when the tablespaces and indexes need to be re-organised
to ensure optimum performance.
The volume of data stored also
needs to be constantly monitored to ensure that the underlying datasets do not fragment into too
many secondary extents or eventually run out of space altogether.
DB2 UDB provides seamless
database connectivity using the most popular network communication
protocols. DB2 UDB provides significant
automation capabilities including self-configuring, self-optimizing and
self-managing capabilities. DB2 delivers a new Configuration Advisor and
Health Centre features.
DB2 UDB also provides new
levels of integrated information across the entire enterprise
leverage federated Web Services and XML to help solve critical business
problems. New federated capabilities enable customers to integrate
information as Web Services. New XML enhancements make it easier for
programmers to integrate DB2 and XML information.
Performance, scalability and availability
enhancements continue with cross workload and cross platform leadership,
improving overall application performance and making information highly
available, by eliminating 85% of the disruptions normally associated with
planned database maintenance.
